California's 100 Biggest Trucking Fleets (2026)

Nightly aggregation of the FMCSA census puts California at 328,636 active motor carriers running roughly 1,234,556 power units combined, and about 53% of those carriers are single-truck owner-operators. Average active fleet size works out to 5.2 trucks.

2,568 new CA carrier registrations appeared in the last 90 days — and 2,396 registrations carry an FMCSA prior-revocation link, the raw material of chameleon re-registrations.

PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY out of DAVIS tops the CA ranking with 4895 power units on its latest MCS-150. Its complete vetting workup — risk flags, score breakdown, insurance filings, and record timeline — is at https://mclookup.com/carrier/2809687.

The list orders every carrier headquartered in CA by self-reported power units, filtered for plausibility (a driver-to-truck ratio between 0.3 and 5.0 screens out data-entry junk like thousand-truck fleets with zero drivers). Showing the top 100 of 31,066 qualifying carriers; every row links to that carrier's full public record.

Yes — this page only surfaces the largest fleets. Any of the 31,066 registered CA carriers can be pulled up by typing its USDOT or MC number into the search bar, which returns the same risk-flag screening, score breakdown, and month-over-month record history.
